This is taking longer than I thought.

I decided my first project for the site would be to make myself a basket for the other tools I plan on creating. It’s not really based on a historical pattern, although I intend it to be a similar shape to some images I’ve seen of old sewing baskets. It’s not even really based on any particular tutorial or pattern, but I have seen many iterations of the rope basket on Pinterest and Youtube. This is the basket so far:

It’s actually my second attempt, my first one was too messy and loose, and was based just on wrapping the small cord around the rope at various intervals as I’d seen on the Youtubes. I discovered half way through that attempt that it was much easier to get a nice, neat, tight “weave” by putting the new stitch through one of the old ones and then pulling it really tight. I’m 100% sure I’m not the first human to think of this, but I did kind of discover it independantly. I also put my stitches a lot closer together than most of the examples I’ve seen. I like how it’s coming out, but it really is going slow, in part due to the fact that I had a couple big digital projects that also needed finishing this week. I’ve been taking photos all along and I might make a tutorial or something in a future post, once the thing is done.

So one post this week. But at least there’s a post.

Also, it’s my birthday! Happy birthday to me! (It will make it easier to remember the anniversary of the first actual “content” post on this site, too heheh
